Perhaps We Should Cut the Serpent some Slack

Perhaps we should cut the serpent some slack;
perhaps he wasn't being subtle or cunning
when he asked the woman,
“Hath God really said, ‘Ye shall not eat of any tree of the garden’?”

Have we forgotten in 20 million years
of biological prejudice against the serpent
that snakes are deaf?

The poor thing was asking for clarification…
