The Wanderings of the Iceman

It was forty years ago today
that the iceman disappeared;
he stepped out of the cold,
and left his family.

He went down to Egypt
where he learned to read the cartouche
and he spent many sleepless nights
in conversation with the Sphinx.

And when he grew restless
he went on to Japan
where he took a job sweeping up after Kaiju
to earn enough yen for bread.

Then it was off to Australia
and from there further south;
to the frozen wastes of the Antarctic
and he’s not been seen ever since.

Come back, iceman, come back;
we need you.
Come back, frozen wanderer;
come back and warm us again.
