God Bless the General of The Salvation Army - Andre Cox

The High Council of The Salvation Army has elected a new General.  It was announced earlier today that Andre Cox will be the 20th General - international leader of the Salvation Army. He was elected in the wake of the sudden and unexpected resignation of former General, Linda Bond.

His various appointments since his commissioning as an officer have been in Europe and Africa and at the International Headquarters.   I can't help but wonder about the fact that he's had only 1 corps appointment (local pastoral appointment). The rest of his appointments have been at headquarters level.

I've known some officers in command appointments who seem to have forgotten what it's like to be at the corps, the, at times, overwhelming demands of the combined pastoral and administrative responsibilities that a corps officer must meet.   It's not easy to be a pastor, a preacher, a social worker and a business administrator all at the same time.

Some of those in leadership, I wonder if they ever knew...

I don't know what General Cox is like as a leader.  I hope that he won't forget what it's like to be a pastor.

May God bless the General of The Salvation Army.
