Thus saith the Lord God, Behold, I am against
thee, Great Dragon, that lieth in the midst of the river, which hath said, The river
is mine; I have made it myself. Ezekiel 29: 3
Though we sing a lamentation, do not weep.
And though we a dirge intone, shed no tears
for the dragon great that lies
and lies within the River.
Do not weep for that slick bellied serpent
who has filled his gullet with our delicacies
for he has troubled the waters
from Khartoum to The Sea with his feet
and troubled our flesh with his teeth.
And yet will he be trampled.
And yet will he be broken,
spit and divided, his head smashed open.
The living myth will die
but shed no tears for him.

The living myth will die
but shed no tears for him.
