April Anomalies A-Z: Salamander

The following are unclean for you among the small creatures that swarm on the ground: the weasel, the mouse, the various kinds of lizards, the gecko, the land crocodile, the skink, the sand-lizard and the salamander. Leviticus 11: 29 -30

With no digestive organs, he eats nothing but fire,
from elemental fire he is born, to eternal fire he goes,
but the fire can do nothing to him,
even the flame of Gehenna has no power over him.

Eating nothing but fire, he excretes nothing but fire,
nourished on flames but never consumed.
Though his skin is cool to the touch;
mortal flesh is burned by the poisons he exudes.

Prestor John, in his hidden kingdom,
wore a robe of salamander skin
to ward off the fiery darts of the enemy,
for he was one of the wise.

Capture and pierce the salamander,
you who are wise,
for his blood, smeared over the skin,
will protect and preserve life from the fire.

This is part of April Anomalies A-Z, a creative writing exercise and not intended to be an altogether accurate picture of the creature described above.
