Watching the classic horror movie Night of the Living Dead in this season of increasingly antagonistic political ads, I am drawn to the thought that many of the politicians vying for our votes are very much like Ben and Mr. Cooper. They both have a plan to keep the people in house safe from the shambling monstrosities outside, plans that are not necessarily mutually exclusive. But they're so busy fighting each other that, instead of keeping anyone safe, they actually ensure that the house is overrun by the flesh eating living dead.
Officials from both major parties are at fault. By creating an atmosphere of suspicion, fear, and distrust, by refusing to see anything outside of their narrow field of vision, by allowing ego and one-ups-manship to be the guiding rule they are ensuring our destruction.
