I Can Tell You Which Parts They Aren't Reading

What part of "Love your enemies" requires an AR-15? What part of "turn the other cheek"?
What part of "you shall not kill"?
What part of "live at peace with everyone"?
What part of "my sword does not bring me victory"?
What part of "he makes wars to cease"?
What part of "wisdom is better than weapons of war"?
What part of "all who take the sword will die by the sword"?
What part of "overcome evil with good"?
What part of "God has called us to live in peace"?
What part of "the weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world"?

Why is this church trying to - lure -  men to the church with the promise of firearms?
What part of the bible are they reading?

I can tell you which parts they aren't reading.

  1. Why? I can't believe you have to ask why. Think about it theologically? What if their faith was soterian, that everything before the Sinner's Prayer was means to get to Sinner's Prayer and that salvation isn't was saved, am saved, am being saved and will be saved? What if their eschatology was escapist, that everything of this world was temporary trial to get to Elysium and not a restoration of all things? What if their Kingdom was not of this world, but this world was one of wrestling against flesh and blood and their against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces ever so present in this final world? What if America were have idealized to have been that City on a Hill, a light for a very dark world? What if everyone were leaving your faith, the one you know (at least in a white-knuckled kind of way) to be right? What if not just your faith-based identity, but your identities in race and in gender were losing its associative privilege? What if you had never heard a sermon on the kenotic power in powerlessness? Would you too not be afraid? Perhaps you would. But consider this. I would like to also hope to think that if you did win an assault rifle and got your picture taken with it, you would not be having trigger finger wrapped around the handgrip, but instead would have it safely pointed straight out signifying you know what you are doing. Personally, I'm an owner of a lot of guns. None of my guns are too cool. But... I do have a lot of organic meat in the freezer. Providing for family of the earth's bounty isn't necessarily a bad thing. We've been told, that while the world may not end in a 20th Century Dispensationalist's Armageddon, there is a banquet feast to come. I hope we have venison and not tofu. In the mean time, much of Christianity remains, as it always has been, a side show freak attraction to what's really going on.
