He Shall Enter and Flow

The Arab seeks Russia's help, lest all be lost. Russia could be expected to offset rising challenges, far worse than the ambitious plans of rival alliances, especially when their weapons are used in the struggle.

And he shall enter and flow, pass over, pass through, overflow the river, overflow the land.

Don’t Give Him Cash – a Dream

I am walking in a city at night, maybe it’s Indianapolis, maybe it’s Peoria or Des Moines. The orange glow of sodium street lights give everything a strange, sickly pallor. But it’s is a sickly pallor that we’re all accustomed to, so no one pays it any mind anymore. The people around me walk in and out of bars and restaurants, they get in and out of Uber vehicles, they text, they talk, they laugh, they move on. The jaundiced tinge to the world doesn’t disturb them.

I am carrying an oversized drawing pad and a pouch of pencils. Its large white sheets of heavy paper now appear a dull orange under the street lights.  Without regard for the other pedestrians around me, I sit down on the sidewalk, cross-legged, with the sketch pad in my lap. I flip open the cover and find a fresh page to begin drawing.

I am interested in the buildings, the skyline, and various architectural details. The people around me disappear as my hand moves across the page. I see only the graphite lines I am creating nothing else until

A slurred, mush-mouthed voice says, “Heaaay there, buddy. Do you need shome money?”

I look up from the drawing pad. An inebriated man is standing there in front of me, fumbling with a bottle of beer in one hand and his open wallet in the other. His female companion stands next to him with her hands jammed resolutely into the pockets of her coat. “Don’t give him cash, Larry,” she warns him. “He’ll probably just use it to buy books…”

Seraph

I saw a seraph in the corner the other day. It might have been this one.

Pics, Or It Didn't Happen

My son drew this during church this morning. It seems like a fair paraphrase of Luke 24: 11.

"Guys! Jesus is gone! He's alive."
"Pics, or it didn't happen."

Unknown Facts About the Anglerfish

The guys in this band (from Hamburg, Germany) wrote me to ask if they could use my drawing of an anglerfish on their newest album.  What else could I say, but 'of course.'  The music is great and they said 'please.'

Notebook Doodle - A Man with Large Glasses

Photobucket

I haven't posted any of my notebook doodles in quite a while.  So... here is a man with large glasses.

The text in my nearly illegible penmanship to the left were the beginnings of a blog post that I never got around to writing.  The notes have nothing to do with the doodle.

"i was critical of President George W. Bush and his administration. Yes, I disagreed with many of the policies he initiated, and I protested the wars he launched in Afghanistan and Iraq.I was critical, yes, but i also tried to be kind. Though I could not readily comprehend the way his Christianity informed his decisions.  I allowed that  he was, as he said, a Christian in some sense of the word. His understanding of xianity is not very much like mine.  His practice is altogether different, but i tried to keep in mind that he claimed Jesus Christ as his lord and savior..."

Make Me a Werewolf, Strong and Bold

“Hail, hail, hail, great Wolf Spirit, hail
A boon I ask thee, mighty shade,
Within this circle I have made.
Make me a werewolf, strong and bold,
The terror alike of young and old.”

Werewolves have never held quite the same fascination for me as vampires or zombies have, but they're monsters and that's okay with me.

I made this collage / painting/ drawing some years back.  The transforming series of faces on the left came from an illustration of foetal development.

Leonard Sings Amen

Tell me again when the day has been ransomed
And the night has no right to begin
Try me again when the angels are panting
And scratching at the door to come in.
Tell me again when I'm clean and I'm sober
Tell me again when I've seen through the horror
Tell me again, tell me over and over
Tell me again that you need me then
Amen, Amen, Amen, Amen Amen.

-Amen - by Leonard Cohen

What Kind of Car did Jesus' Disciples Drive?

What kind of car did Jesus' disciples drive? Why it was a Honda, of course.   Acts 2:1 says that they were all "in one Accord."
